There's something I have to tell you about. You might have been expecting to hear something like this, but I was just speaking with Athena.

It involves about that conversation you intervened in. And... I have to thank you for that, first. I hadn't been checking the CereVice at that time, and I'm glad that conversation was able to end before it escalated.

But, beyond that, it made Athena curious.

[A sigh. He should have expected this. Obviously Athena would probably do as Edgeworth asked, but she'd want answers later on. And Phoenix was a handy repository of answers about Edgeworth's life, if the prosecutor himself did not wish to speak.]

It's the least I could do. Did you tell her the full story? [At least he doesn't sound annoyed or outraged - more resigned than anything. It might even make Athena more likely to be cautious around Manfred if she knew, but that doesn't mean Edgeworth has to like sharing his past with others.]

That's right. I told her everything. [It was reluctantly, of course. He knows how sensitive all of these issues are for Edgeworth. But he also knows that Edgeworth would agree that the safety of others would be more important.

And it's not like she wouldn't have been able to find out by herself if we were back home. What happens in the courtroom never stays in the courtroom, after all.]

I'm sorry, Edgeworth, but I thought that it would be best if she knew the truth. It's the only way to truly get across how dangerous that man can be.

No need to apologize. [Edgeworth sounds weary, as if he has aged twenty years from this message alone.] I can only hope Miss Cykes treads carefully around him after this. [Otherwise, the story will have been told in vain.]

We shouldn't have to worry about that. Athena can be hotheaded... but she understands the severity of this conversation. We won't have to worry about that anymore.

If I can't apologize, then I'd at least like to thank you again for keeping her from goading him on in the first place. I guess that you're looking out for my subordinate as well.

[But where were you whenever Prosecutor Blackquill made fun of me and nearly sliced my hair?!]

No, I haven't known her for that long...but I've met her previously, in the world I was first sent to.

[He hesitates for a moment, recalling the horrifying account Integra provided about her life in another world. But he trusts Edgeworth.]
