Right! [Apparently that's all the explanation Edgeworth is going to get for the time being... Oz is busy standing on his toes trying to get a look out through the window, too, in the meantime.]

Metal is enough to break metal, usually... I just need a little space for it, so I think trying other things first might be better.

[prosecutory]

Very well. [The boy's plan sounds very reasonable.] I'll check one side of the room. You investigate the other. There should be something... [Even a stray tool.]

[harepiece]

All right!

[AND AWAY HE GOES to look around... Tragically, even though their kidnappers are dumb enough to leave them unattended in the room, they don't seem to have been dumb enough to leave them with tools or weapons.]

Do you see anything?

[Edgeworth moves away too, peering into nooks and crannies, trying to search for tiny compartments or even stray pieces of metal sticking out from the walls...]

No...nothing at all. [He straightens up and brushes his trousers off before shaking his head.]

[harepiece]

So... Food, chairs and a table.

[That seems to be the extent of their tool arsenal right now...]

I guess they were a little more thorough than they seemed.

[prosecutory]

They're certainly serious about collecting our "debts". [His tone is wry, and especially so at that last word.]

[harepiece]

They are...

[A SIGH. Why you gotta make life harder than it should be, CERES.]

Should I try, then?

[prosecutory]

It's definitely worth a try. [Edgeworth decides to give Oz some space and backs up against the wall.]

[harepiece]

[He had been just about to ask Edgeworth to step to the side, SO THIS WORKS.]

I'll give it a try, then...

[And with that serving as the warning, a chain with a bladed tip about as thick as his wrist rockets forth seemingly from nowhere, guided directly toward the lock. With speed like that, of course it snaps neatly, and the chain vanishes soon after.]

—There! Let's go!

[prosecutory]

[He makes a strangled, shocked noise when the chain suddenly appears and zeroes in on the lock as if it were a laser beam. While tracking it with unblinking eyes, the sound of the lock breaking snaps him out of it, and he blinks.

The chain was gone as soon as it had come. Edgeworth decides this was not the time to question Oz further about that...that display of power.]

Thank you. [Edgeworth nods once, then gestures toward the table. Their stepping stone to freedom!]

[harepiece]

[FREEDOM IS SO CLOSE NOW... Oz will step onto the table first so he can brush the broken pieces of lock away, working on wiggling the window open after.]

—Okay! I've got it! [THE WINDOW IS OPEN and they're blessedly on the ground floor.]

Should I go through first?

[prosecutory]

[Edgeworth approaches Oz again now that it's safer; no more whipping chains or crazy powers. He holds down the table to steady it.]

By all means. I'll inform everyone else that we've found an escape route, and possibly make one last investigation. [Just so he can have some clues on hand and track these debtors down.]

[harepiece]

I'll keep an eye out for anyone who might be guarding the outside, then! And see if I can find other ways in, in case evacuating through the window takes too long.

[And out the window he scoots, after checking to make sure the coast is clear! He'll call back up once he lands on the ground.]

It seems clear so far! Be careful just in case!

[prosecutory]

Good. Thank you, Oz.

[He nods once Oz is out the window.]

You should be careful as well.
