Oh, but something already has. [Edgeworth frowns, and shakes his head.] The security droids have gone haywire before and tried to arrest us for false charges.
[A lot of experience fighting worse monsters does this to anyone. Edgeworth steps forward again toward one Tonberry, sword at the ready. His movements are made gingerly, as if he's expecting another invisible wall.]
Then leave the actual combat to me. [At least he doesn't sound angry about that. Hey, it's just two Tonberries...]
Thank you. [A short nod. No, Yang, he won't drown.] If the landscape changes the way it did when it pitched me into this ocean...it's likely ViViD could be making even more changes right now.
[The gears are turning in his head, even as he takes a deep breath and fills his lungs with as much air as they can hold. Then he dives, opening his eyes wide against the stinging sensation of the saltwater. So far, as he swims down, Edgeworth can see nothing except a lot of blue and the shifting of light and shadow.
Several feet below, he stops; another one of those huge eel things was passing by, its scales alive with flickering, crackling energy. He tries to move as little as possible so as not to disturb the water so much.]
Disguised? ...Ah, to hide their faces. In case we recognize them? Smart, suppose...
[Considering many of them would probably enact revenge if they passed them in the street.Or maybe that was just Oona. Bored now with this conversation that was leading nowhere to violence, she turns to the window]
Well, am leaving. Will miss that show if I stay here much longer, an if I do not find out if Amelia is pregnant by her husband or the the evil twin, will be very mad. [soap operas are super serious business god damn it.] How do we do this...
Right! [Apparently that's all the explanation Edgeworth is going to get for the time being... Oz is busy standing on his toes trying to get a look out through the window, too, in the meantime.]
Metal is enough to break metal, usually... I just need a little space for it, so I think trying other things first might be better.
[ Yang's occasionally ducking down too, just making sure Edgeworth isn't pissing off the eels. So far, so good, although she'll miss the movement of one as she resurfaces for a breath.
[ Yeah, he sure shares that sarcasm. This whole situation sucks, and it's eerily close to some of the more dangerous situations that crop up around the city from time to time.
He doesn't like it. ]
I've seen some people actually getting wounded. [ As in, not just game damage that you can heal with a potion. Actual wounds that won't go away. ]
I have no objections to this plan. [Edgeworth sets his jaw and glances at all the doorways. They all look similar, and at first glance there are no signs or marks that would tell them anything useful.] We don't know what we'll face in these rooms.
So have I. [Edgeworth's brow furrows, but not because of Heung Soo. It's because of what the teenager said and what Edgeworth himself has witnessed. This means they have to be doubly careful.] I wonder why...has something affected ViViD in some way?
[They'll all miss much more than a simple show if they were cooped up here. A non-human watching a soap opera when she's not thinking of murder? Yup, a regular day in Cerealia. Typical. He's not going to question it.
Edgeworth points up to the window again.]
You can climb onto the table to reach the window and slip through it; someone has already broken the lock. [Thanks, Oz.] If you still can't reach it, I can help you. [Hopefully she doesn't mind clambering onto his back. He's certain he can take her weight for a time.]
Very well. [The boy's plan sounds very reasonable.] I'll check one side of the room. You investigate the other. There should be something... [Even a stray tool.]
[More eels are farther down, but Edgeworth doesn't want to go deeper. For one thing, he's already longing for a breath, but he still hasn't found anything except many electric eels that aren't making any effort to actively search for any intruders in their ocean. None of them have spotted him, thankfully.]
[This ocean could go on for fathoms...and the only other signs of life besides Yang and myself are these eels. There are no reefs, or cliffs, or anything that marks our route...]
[So yes, he didn't bother the creatures. Obviously, they look dangerous, and he's not going to poke a hornet's nest - or in this case, a school of electric eels. Instead, he kicks powerfully upward, and breaks the surface a short distance ahead of Yang. For a moment, he doesn't speak but is only gasping loudly for air and shaking his hair out of his face.
[ Do you really have to ask, Edgeworth? You know how Heung Soo thinks about this place - he's way too embittered by everything that's happened to believe this is merely some sort of coincidence or a one-time event of ViViD screwing up.
Hence why he's practically scowling as he speaks up again, although it's at least obvious the anger isn't directed at Edgeworth personally. ]
We're being messed with. [ Again, he implies without saying. ]
