[On the 20th December, Edgeworth will have a parcel delivered. Should he choose to open it, inside is an ornate Japanese-style tea set. With it a letter is enclosed, written in a neat, old-fashioned cursive:]

This will mean little to you as you are, and I apologise for the confusion this may cause. However, I see no reason why a gulf in time should prevent me from writing this to you.

In the past year, you have gone through great pains for my sake, for the sake of the prosecutor's office, and in service of the truth. Words alone cannot convey the depths of my gratitude, so I hope you will accept this as a small gesture of recompense... Consider it an early Christmas gift.
