prosecutoryThis is where I keep the headcanon stuff - things that were never mentioned in canon but which I assume are true to some extent in my take on Miles Edgeworth. I'll be updating this every now and then.
WARNING: Here there be spoilers for all games he's been in!
BACKGROUND + EDGEWORTH FAMILY
- Miles is at most 1/4 British thanks to his paternal grandfather.
- Gregory was born and raised in the UK, but went to America to study law. There, he met Camille, Miles's mother. She was studying in the same university, although she majored in sociology.
- The couple chose to stay in America, but spent their honeymoon in London. It was there that Miles was conceived - WOW I ALSO HAVE THIS KIND OF HEADCANON WHY.
- Camille died of complications after Miles was born, but was alive long enough to name him. "Miles" was the last word she said before she passed away.
- One year later, a young woman who worked as a clerk in court developed feelings for Gregory, but they were only one-sided. He had no plans of remarrying and vowed to raise Miles on his own.
- Gregory does not wear his wedding ring on his hand; he keeps it strung on a fine chain around his neck under his shirt. But he never takes the chain off, even when he's in the shower.
EARLY CHILDHOOD/BEFORE DL-6
- Gregory was very supportive of Miles, and knew that the kid had potential, so he allowed Miles to get involved in a lot of activities in his childhood. That...and so he would make friends.
- Miles learned how to play chess at the age of seven. He saw his father and a family friend playing, watched a few moves, and asked Gregory if he would teach him. Shortly after, Miles was enrolled in formal chess lessons.
- He started playing the flute when he was six. The first piece he ever played was "Ode to Joy", during a family reunion. He didn't play it flawlessly though.
- In the span of nine years, the two Edgeworths have gone to Britain three times.
- Miles's first encounter with a girl was in kindergarten, when a young girl tried to give him a pink paper heart with green grass leaves pasted on it on Valentine's Day. He broke her heart by trying to turn all her efforts to catch her attention down.
- He took basic swimming lessons when he was eight (well, they kinda helped when Death City was flooded. Kiiiinda.), but couldn't do the backstroke right. Until now, he can't quite get it.
- His worst subject was art. On the other hand, his best subject was English. Actually, he was a decent PE student.
- A few of his classmates have teased him about his outfit (the bow tie and the cute little suit). He got used to it eventually, but at first he was very, very annoyed.
AFTER DL-6/THE VON KARMA YEARS
- Miles first went horseback riding when he was 12. He has decent equestrian skills - and knows the correct way to mount a horse and ride. Unlike some other lawyers.
- His first Oktoberfest was in 2008, but prior to that, he kind of dropped in on previous ones shortly. During his first Oktoberfest, he accidentally took the wrong drink and regretted it.
- He and Franziska learned ballroom dance together (yes, Fran-mun and I discussed this one). Once, a female classmate asked Miles to be her partner during her dance classes when her usual partner broke his leg.
- Manfred never allowed pets (also discussed with Franziska-mun).
PROSECUTION, STUDIES
- His trips to Europe have taken him to quite a few countries, so he knows the basics of some common European languages. His knowledge of German is extensive, of course, because he was raised by Manfred von Karma. But he can speak some pretty decent Spanish (still learning much of this), Italian, and French. And because of those law terms, he's good at Latin too. Even if it's a dead language. Yeah.
RESIDENCE, HABITS, ROUTINES
- Miles lives in a three-story house that borders on mansion levels. Fine, so it IS a mansion. Much of the second floor has been turned into his own personal library and expanded study, and his bedroom is on the third.
- He has a walk-in closet for only one reason; much of it has been transformed into a small secret room where he keeps all his Steel Samurai merchandise.
PESS (his supposed dog)
- ...is a tri-color border collie, five years old, and his eyes are amber.
- Miles acquired him from a breeder referred to him by one of his colleagues at the Prosecutors' Office. The first thing Pess did upon arriving home was pee on his new master's doormat.
- No, Miles doesn't dress Pess up or anything. The fanciest accessory Pess owns is a shiny red studded collar.
- He can roll over, fetch, play dead, do the usual tricks...and raise his right front leg in some kind of doggy objection.
- When Miles goes abroad, Pess is often left in the care of some very reliable neighbors. But Pess occasionally comes along for the ride.
IDK his BFFs [relationships with other people]
- He keeps in touch with Kay and never fails to constantly remind her to keep her eyes on the truth, and only the truth.
- He DID see Phoenix, Maya and Pearl at Gatewater Land for a bit, but of course it was only a passing glance since he had more important things.
PREFERENCES
- Miles loves classical music. His favorite composers include Chopin, Rachmaninov, Beethoven and Vivaldi. Typically he'll listen to other genres, but he does not like rap or heavy metal because it's not conducive to his work. Or songs with nonsensical lyrics. If teenagers listen to it at top volume to the point that the neighbors complain, he probably won't like it.
- Boxers over briefs, but he owns both.
- He's strictly heterosexual. Although one might say he's more asexual than anything because he has zero interest in romance or women.
OTHER THINGS/PRESENT
- Not very knowledgeable about sports news.
- Can only run in short bursts and is not a fan of jumping (see AAI). However, he can walk for considerably longer distances thanks to years of avoiding elevators.
