Thank you. [A short nod. No, Yang, he won't drown.] If the landscape changes the way it did when it pitched me into this ocean...it's likely ViViD could be making even more changes right now.

[The gears are turning in his head, even as he takes a deep breath and fills his lungs with as much air as they can hold. Then he dives, opening his eyes wide against the stinging sensation of the saltwater. So far, as he swims down, Edgeworth can see nothing except a lot of blue and the shifting of light and shadow.

Several feet below, he stops; another one of those huge eel things was passing by, its scales alive with flickering, crackling energy. He tries to move as little as possible so as not to disturb the water so much.]

[ Yang's occasionally ducking down too, just making sure Edgeworth isn't pissing off the eels. So far, so good, although she'll miss the movement of one as she resurfaces for a breath.

But don't worry, she'll check again. ]

[More eels are farther down, but Edgeworth doesn't want to go deeper. For one thing, he's already longing for a breath, but he still hasn't found anything except many electric eels that aren't making any effort to actively search for any intruders in their ocean. None of them have spotted him, thankfully.]

[This ocean could go on for fathoms...and the only other signs of life besides Yang and myself are these eels. There are no reefs, or cliffs, or anything that marks our route...]

[So yes, he didn't bother the creatures. Obviously, they look dangerous, and he's not going to poke a hornet's nest - or in this case, a school of electric eels. Instead, he kicks powerfully upward, and breaks the surface a short distance ahead of Yang. For a moment, he doesn't speak but is only gasping loudly for air and shaking his hair out of his face.

Ugh. So much for the investigation.]

... So? How'd it go?

[ Well, she's at least asking after his breathing's settled down. He looks unharmed, if nothing else. ]

[Unharmed, which is much, much, MUCH better than being crispy fried. Or drowned. Edgeworth still feels like his brain is waterlogged (logic is so much more difficult underwater), but he finally manages to get the words out in between breaths.]

There's...there's nothing... [He runs his hand down his face as if attempting to dry his face off.] There's nothing except a school of eels. [To have even just a moment of rest, he decides to float on his back, paddling sluggishly.] How do you fight them, and are you sure they are the only things you've seen?

Well, I punch them when they try to get closer, and that usually stops 'em. And trust me, aside from you, they're the only alive thing I've seen.

[ She won't mention the skeleton that floated up awhile ago, she's sure that's just a part of the game. ]

Don't you get electrocuted when you touch them? [Or is that a feature of this part of ViViD?

The only alive thing? Eurgh. He doesn't like the sound of that. On the bright side, a dead thing was less of a threat.]

Well, yeah, but I've been training with an electric snake, so it's not so bad.

[ Her life. ]

You what?!

[Edgeworth flails and sinks, but rights himself, spluttering as he goes back to treading water as usual.]

That's dangerous! [He isn't even questioning whether or not electric snakes exist. For all he knew, they do, in another dimension.]

Don't worry, it's just practice! It's never enough to put me out of commission!

[ SO IT'S FINE. ]

[He wills himself to relax. Yang is fine, she really is, otherwise she wouldn't be with him in this vast ocean in the first place. Soon his shoulders are no longer tense, a sign that he's less worried and frantic about her meeting electric snakes.

Edgeworth holds up his hands in surrender.]

I guess I can only take your word for it. Let's keep going; I'll dive back down later to check if ViViD has changed anything again. [Weird. Why hasn't it chucked them into a new environment or something?

...on second thought, that's a good thing. The last thing he needs are mutating electric eels. Or larger, more dangerous monsters blocking their path.]

[ Except ViViD does indeed decide to throw them out, so at least... you won't be diving today, Edgeworth. Lucky you! ]

Whoa!

[Suddenly they're out of ViViD - and back in the real world. Edgeworth finds himself flopping onto dry ground, dripping all over the place and smelling strongly of seawater. The sounds of the colony are back, and with them the recognition of their new surroundings.

He and Yang just came back from ViViD. And yes, he is thankful he doesn't have to go diving again in an ocean full of eels. For a moment he just lies there where he is, the exhaustion from treading water and swimming beginning to sink in.]
